SARD
SARD, Sosyal Araştırma ve Rehabilite Derneği, is a non-governmental organisation established with the mission of enhancing resilience and self-reliance among populations affected by conflict and natural disasters. It prioritises the localisation of humanitarian assistance and works across key sectors including food security and livelihoods, shelter, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), protection, non-food items and early recovery. SARD's geographic intervention area covers southeastern Türkiye and Syria. SARD employs a community-based, human rights-based, and area-based approach, with robust community participation at the center of all programming, from needs assessment through to implementation and accountability.
The organisation's strategic emphasis is on delivering critical resources and innovative opportunities that enable affected individuals and communities to progress towards sustainable futures rather than merely offering short-term relief.
In addition to sectoral programme delivery, SARD maintains an emergency preparedness and response mechanism which ensures the facilitation of rapid and effective response in the face of emergencies. Its programmes combine rapid emergency interventions, prioritizing emergency cash assistance, with longer-term support aimed at community infrastructure rehabilitation and socio-economic recovery, including livelihood and micro-lending opportunities, and the restoration of essential services.
In pursuit of sustainable and locally led recovery, SARD has expanded into social enterprise with the recent opening of The Hub, a social and co-working space in Aleppo, Syria. The Hub is soon set to become an Impact Hub, positioning Aleppo within a global ecosystem of innovation and social entrepreneurship and creating new pathways for post-conflict economic recovery.
