Mayumi Fuchi

Mayumi is a strategic leader in quality assurance and accountability with over 20 years of experience across the international aid sector. She has directed complex emergency responses and development programmes with organisations ranging from major international NGOs to local civil society.  A long-standing advocate for accountability, she has shaped sector-wide standards and debates, contributing to the collective efforts of the UK's Disaster Emergency Committee and guiding international organisations through the CHS certification scheme. She has provided strategic advice to global initiatives including UNOCHA and the World Organization of the Scout Movement.

Mayumi currently heads Quality Assurance and Accountability at an international faith-based organisation, embedding strategy and continuous improvement across global operations. With a doctorate in accountability, safeguarding, and power dynamics in humanitarian contexts, she bridges research and practice to advance evidence-informed approaches. She also serves on key governance and advisory bodies, including the FCDO Safeguarding Independent Committee and the Funders’ Safeguarding Standard Co-Creators’ Group, contributing to sector-wide learning and accountability. Driven by a deep commitment to enhancing quality assurance in humanitarian action, she is dedicated to advancing HQAI's mission through collaborative approaches.

I joined the HQAI community as a member of the General Assembly in May 2025.

I became a member of HQAI because I have seen firsthand how the CHS certification scheme can transform aid organisations by strengthening accountability to the people we serve. I believe in the power of standards and independent verification to drive meaningful change. HQAI plays a vital role in helping organisations assess and uphold these commitments, and I’m excited to join collective efforts across the sector.

HQAI plays a vital role in providing independent quality assurance to NGOs. In collaboration with CHS Alliance, it promotes accountability by driving improvement and demonstrating credibility to stakeholders. Emerging research highlights the CHS as a key force in upholding the dignity of affected populations, and HQAI continues to lead efforts to strengthen sector-wide accountability and principled humanitarian action.
