Katrin Wirsching

Katrin Wirsching is Deputy Director for Community Health at the Health Department of the Canton of Vaud, Switzerland. She brings over 20 years of experience from the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, including senior leadership roles at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

Her career began with the German Red Cross, where she oversaw the Tsunami response in Indonesia and later headed the office in Israel/the occupied Palestinian territories. Joining the ICRC in 2010, she held international posts in Gaza, Kuala Lumpur, and Yangon.

She holds a degree in Political Science from the Freie Universität Berlin and works in German, English, and French. Most recently (2022–2024), she led Strategy and Organisational Development within the ICRC’s Executive Office, having previously served as its Deputy Director General (2020–2022) overseeing partnerships and the organisation’s climate transition.

She currently serves as President of DO3, an emerging initiative that provides strategic advice to third-sector leaders, leveraging the practical expertise of its members to ensure accessible organisational development support.
