Katrin Wirsching

Katrin Wirsching is Deputy Director for Community Health at the Health Department of the Canton of Vaud, Switzerland. She is also President of DO3, an organisation providing high-level strategic advice and support to third-sector leaders, based on the practical expertise of its members and the collective experience of its network, while remaining financially accessible.

Before joining the Canton of Vaud in 2024, Katrin spent over 20 years within the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, including senior leadership roles at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

From 2022-2024, she served as Head of Strategy and Organisational Development in the Executive Office of the Director General, where she supported the development and implementation of the ICRC’s institutional strategy and performance management. From 2020 to 2022, she was Deputy Director General, overseeing cooperation within the Movement, partnerships with development actors, and the organisation’s climate and environment transition.

Katrin began her career with the German Red Cross and joined the ICRC in 2010, holding positions in Gaza, Kuala Lumpur and Yangon. She holds a degree in Political Science from the Freie Universität Berlin and works in German, English and French.

With 20 years of experience in the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, including five years at the German Red Cross, where she headed the office based in Israel/the occupied Palestinian territories, Katrin joined the ICRC in 2010. She held a number of International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement Cooperation positions in Gaza, Kuala Lumpur, and Yangon, working and engaging with many National Societies as well as the International Federation. Born in Germany, Katrin studied Political Science at the Freie Universität Berlin and is proficient in German, English, and French.
