Nigel Timmins

Nigel Timmins has worked in international humanitarian assistance since 1996 in a range of roles, starting as a Water and Sanitation Engineer with Action Against Hunger and as Humanitarian Director for Oxfam International. As a consultant since 2022, he has co-authored a series of papers on the performance of the sector with Humanitarian Outcomes and conducted research on innovation for Elrha. He was a co-author of the Core Humanitarian Standard (alongside Pierre Hauselmann, and a focal point for DRR in the 2011 version of SPHERE.

Regarding previous governance experience, Nigel was a founder and Trustee of the Start Network and of the Global Network for Disaster Reduction, Chair of the CaLP Network for five years and a member of the IASC Emergency Directors Group for three years. Nigel has been interested in the issue of accountability since first hearing about the Humanitarian Ombudsman Project in 1999. In 2003, he represented Tearfund at the first meeting of HAP-I, and he led Oxfam to undertake an HQAI audit in 2018. Whilst a Steering Committee for Humanitarian Response member, he was an instigator of the Misconduct Disclosure Scheme.
