Akram Alsarory
Akram is an HQAI-registered auditor based in Yemen, with over a decade of experience in humanitarian evaluation, accountability and programme quality. He specialises in monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL), research institutes and independent evaluation, including country-level MEAL leadership and Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) audit work with HQAI and has worked with international and national organisations in Yemen and MENA region. Akram has worked with HQAI on CHS certification and verification since 2022 as an audit facilitator.
He has designed, facilitated, and led training, coaching and after-action reviews, programme evaluations, gender study and the gender-sensitivity and economic-empowerment briefing-papers; livelihoods case studies and cash-for-work impact evaluations; Rapid Education and Risk Analysis and household resilience evaluations; two-way communication with children and communities, AAP strategy, and feedback and response systems; learning products, evidence and knowledge management; and data quality and third-party monitoring.
Akram is a native Arabic language speaker and fluent English language speaker.
Listening, evidence, and trust.
Most of my work has been about whether humanitarian programmers are accountable in practice, not only on paper. Working on CHS audits in Yemen from 2022 showed me how an independent process can open that question properly, with evidence from communities, staff and systems, and help an organisation act on what it finds. Auditing the CHS takes that same question to the level of the whole organization. I became an HQAI auditor to do that work in Arabic and in English, in my region and in other responses.
